On Monday afternoon, October 5th, 2020, Harry Babe Jr. succumbed to death by suicide. A year ago in June, he was in a terrible motorcycle accident that caused a severe brain bleed and triggered his bipolar depression, and loss of many functions. He fought like hell every single day to overcome this. Medications were no longer effective, and in the end his injuries, and mind took over. This is an absolute tragedy, not only for his wife, Jen Babe, children, and grandchildren, but for ANYONE who has had the blessed opportunity to know Harry! He had a passion for motorcycles, cars, and family.
Harry was an amazingly brilliant mechanic who’s hands could fix anything.
Harry’s hands to help and heal is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was created in Harry’s memory to help the community end the stigma.

Tomorrow’s history is being made today.
Harry’s Hands to Help & Heal
In October 2020, the Babe family lost Harry Babe Jr. to suicide, Harry was a husband, father, and grandfather. Jen Babe, Harry’s wife, knew that this loss could not be in vain and that a mental health conversation needed to start somewhere. Jen and her daughters decided to provide a haven for those conversations to happen. With this team of all women, Harry’s Hands to Help and Heal (Harry’s Hands) was started.
Harry’s Hands is a non-profit organization that offers a food, clothing, and pet supply pantry to those in need in Ridley Township. However, their true mission is to bring mental health awareness and resources to those who may not know where to turn. A major barrier to receiving assistance with mental health is the stigma, Harry’s Hands holds a monthly adult peer support group where people suffering from mental health issues or who just feel the need for someone to talk to can gather and feel safe to express themselves. Harry’s Hands can also be found at annual community events such as the Halloween Trunk or Treat, Annual Car Show, Easter Egg Hunt, and many more.
The leadership of Harry's Hands is comprised entirely of dedicated women who are making an impact in their community each and every day. Their commitment and emphasis on mental health is truly commendable. Their compassionate support groups provide hope and healing to individuals facing difficult challenges. Through their collective efforts, Harry's Hands for Help and Heal exemplifies the power of empathy and community, serving as a beacon of hope for those navigating hard times. DCHD is excited to see how this all-star, all-female team will continue to grow and bring much-needed mental health services to the Delaware County Community.
